The Annual Black-necked Crane

At the courtyard of Gangtey Gompa, in Phobjikha Valley The Annual Black-necked Crane Festival is celebrated. This festival is performed to celebrate the arrival of the endangered majestic bird which becomes a part of their life during the winter season.

The Annual Black-necked Crane Festival is also performed to spread awareness and understanding to conserve the endangered Black‐necked cranes. Display of cultural heritage and skills is seen in the festival.

Folk dance and cultural programs are performed in this festival and black-necked crane themes are highlighted in it. You can also see masked dance by locals, conservation themes, and songs by the school students. This festival has become a part of the local culture in the Phobjika Valley in Bhutan.
